Sunday from Honkai Star Rail: 1w2 SO/SX EVLF
"There's always a paradise that needs to be built. Even if I should melt and fall before reaching it."
The Instinctual stack was a bit of a puzzle for me. At a first glance, SO/SP fits him very well archetypally. But although his SX is covert and tricky to identify, he is undoubtedly SP-blind (the quote above is already proof enough). I do find it interesting that he displays significantly less SX than SO/SX tend to, and it made me rethink the way I approach Ennea Instincts. The confusion is either because of a hole somewhere in my methodology, or because I was right all along and we simply have yet to see this side of Sunday. Could be both. Anyway, I shall now explain my reasoning.
"Even without Penacony, people create their own illusions called 'self-value.' People believe they have a predetermined value to fulfill. ... However, value doesn't come out of thin air ... To accumulate value, people have to take from others." - To people with SP, the self is inherently valuable. But to Sunday, there is no such thing - self-value is something that people take from the outside. That's because to SP-blinds, all value comes from SO and SX, not from inherent qualities within.
"Human consciousness is fundamentally an illusion, a cage known as 'self-worth'." - To those with SP, the self is tangible and fragile, and therefore must be guarded and protected. But Sunday sees it as merely a cage and an illusion that misguides people, preventing them from living in harmony with each other.
To Sunday, the tangible reality is where all troubles are. Therefore, to escape the tragedy of life, one must transcend one's physical, animalistic self. As we see in the story, the characters with SP pretty much unanimously disagree with him, because they see innate value in reality that far outweighs anything you can find in a fleeting dream, so completely forsaking it is an insane idea to them.
The seven rest days. Everyday obligations, "bearing the hardships" of physical reality and actively working to secure one's survival is not something that SP types try to get rid of, because they understand that you won't be able to build anything and become more resourceful otherwise. However, Sunday disagrees. He sees a need for survival as a burden on humanity, a flaw in human nature that needs to be corrected, rather than simply a way of living.
"If we had never experienced solitude, how could we have embarked on different paths?" - In SO/SP, there is an understanding that people will be inherently different from one another regardless of how close they are, and that there should always exist a degree of independence. But in Sunday's mind, this is only proof of solitude and a lack of interpersonal harmony.
Sunday is all about people. While SO/SP are Social-first too, they are still disposed to setting boundaries and respecting those of other people. But to Sunday, these boundaries are fluid. He's quick to trap strangers in his "inner world" realm and has no qualms about it (Trailblazer even makes a remark about this), and he readily exposes his innermost vulnerable self even to his enemies. Ergo, SO/SX.
1w2: You could argue that type Two fits his controlling nature better. However, Two's control is interpersonal. This is not the case for Sunday (not primarily at least; E2 is still in his tritype), for governing the underlying universal principles is where his ambition lies, which he aims to achieve through self-control. Suffering, tragedy, survival of the fittest - these are all inescapable truths of this world, but he shall eliminate them regardless. Because he must.
Sunday's ambition comes from the Gut Center, specifically type One's urge to be correct and do the right thing. There is no hidden motive (which would be love in case of a Heart type), he wants to rebuild the world according to his vision simply because he's convinced it's the right thing for him to do. He would not allow himself rest until he achieves this goal, and punishes himself for mistakes and not being his best at all times. He seriously needs to chill out and have some fun, in other words, move along the line of Integration from One to Seven. Indeed, that's exactly where Sunday is headed on his personal journey.
"I had a hunch and decided to try my luck. It seems I can be lucky sometimes."
"It's not like you to leave things to luck."
"I'm trying to change, too."
When it comes to Psychosophy, Process V is, undoubtedly, Sunday's main theme. It's about overcoming oneself and the obstacles in one's life, finding guidance, and helping others do the same. There is a kind of solidarity to it. The life of someone with Process V is, well, a continuous process of finding a way and a will to carry on, again and again.
"Don't you... have a wish of your own, brother?"
"Of course, I do. It's just that... it includes your wish and everyone else's." - This quote summarizes Sunday's 2V perfectly. In his world, there is a place for everyone. An ideal world is one where everyone can fulfill their desires equally. Sunday is deeply concerned about and advocates for the commonfolk, and their wishes are important to him.
4F in combination with 1E is a person predisposed to a life of sorrow and despair. Perhaps, Sunday is obsessed with the duality of happiness and suffering because he never experienced much of the former. The nature of suffering is not something that most people give much thought because they have material indulgence to keep them happy and satisfied. But in Sunday's mind, suffering prevails and is ever present and overwhelming.
4F are born ascetics. They innately have less interest in material luxuries, which is why Sunday was only too willing to give up his life in the Dreamscape for the sake of everybody else's happiness. He had never grown attached to it in the first place. Pudding tarts are clearly not as important to him as universal peace
Sunday is an intelligent person, but too humble to think of himself this way, which points to 3L. He's careful about sharing his thoughts, and is also eager to hear what other people think, and then compare their and his findings. Intelligence and wisdom are qualities that Sunday admires.
"Perhaps, what I need, more than asceticism, is knowledge."
A utopia free of Self-Preservation stuff governed by a 4F politician doesn't sound so bad. Sign me up.
